Our impact.

In recent years, demand for premium quality herbs and blossoms has increased exponentially; this sudden increase in demand has resulted in tonnes of low-quality, highly adulterated offerings flooding the marketplace, with no traceability or any clear indication of their provenance.

Our values.

The sourcing and handling of many of these crops oftentimes leads to growers being taken advantage of by unscrupulous buyers and gatherers causing irreparable damage to fragile ecosystems.

These developments also pose a threat to the diversity and survival of numerous varieties and subspecies of native flora, since 25% of Greece’s endemic plants are either endangered or already at risk of extinction due to illegal gathering of wild populations.

At Akeso, everything we do must ultimately benefit the environment and our partners in the field. Our team has over two decades of experience in working with growers to produce the best possible results while maintaining a holistic approach to agriculture

Our approach.

Each and every batch is traceable and identified by grower partner, lot location and pick date.

As a matter of course, we never accept herbs or blossoms from growers whose land and operations have not been previously vetted by our agronomists, nor do we ever accept flora that have been gathered illegally from the wild.

Depending on the type of herb or blossom, we work with our grower partners (a majority of which are women) to secure the best possible remuneration for their efforts, either by entering into annual or multi-annual contractual prix fixe agreements, or by providing them with advance orders for the upcoming harvest.

We work with a core group of long-term grower partners in cultivating endemic plant species that have only existed in the wild until now.
